Surface, surface, a surface, the surface. That’s all you see. Not more depth than the surface you are allowed to see. There’s so much more under this blood drenching skin, these bones skillfully put together, this place where every running cell merges through veins, and holds carbon for a lifetime. So much more under this vellum, past this cardiac muscle that contracts rhythmically of its own record. There is so much more, much more; substance than the phrases you read, than the empty spaces filling each word, the commas that hold our pauses in un-recyclable breaths we’ll never get to breath again. Oxygen and nitrogen that we’ll never waste again. A surface, the surface. This planet spinning a thousand miles an hour around this gigantic nuclear explosion while these people roll these rubber tires over the hard surface we’v laid down over the planet so that we can easily move ourselves back and forth. Look beneath the surface, and you’ll cut through the world of surface appearances to get to a much deeper reality. What is real is not the external form, but the essence of things. Penetrate into the depth of matters, as far as your time and circumstances allow, into layers of irony and paradox all the way through, into revelations and…eternity?
Close your eyes, and use your brain to see that this isn’t depthless, it isn’t a continuous set of points that has length and breadth but no thickness. But rather, the heaviest of weights, not only in the physical form. Close your eyes, and open your lids to see soul, dare to see past the white empty walls and plain shirts.Look underneath the surface and for a single second of these precipitated crumbling minutes, notice how we often live on the surface of our lives, the underside is rarely questioned. Never have we questioned that we are like the moon. The moon shines anyways, but it does not produce its own light. It reflects the light illuminated onto its surface by the Sun and is never proud to say that it is its own source of light. Dive deeper into your life, and discover what lies under the surface. Underneath your cool and calm self, you will discover that God shines through us.
