“Who am I that I should go before Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:
Ahhh, the question you either used to ask yourself, and sometimes still do. You look at yourself, where you come from, what you’ve done and you feel unworthy, inadequate to do the works God has called you to do. But the thing to learn from this is that, you shouldn’t doubt, nor look down on yourself. If God chose you, He knows why! Moses, Raïssa, whoever you may be! You are the Moses of your generation. The Lord will use you Moses. He will be with you, to lead you where flows milk and honey. He is sending you, and He is gonna be there Himself. Don’t waste your time asking Him, why or how. He’s GOD. The thing to worry about is you. Allowing The Lord to use you to the fullest. Live with the awareness that everything you’re doing is to serve Him. Erase yourself, be humble.
Re-reading this chapter makes me giggle a little because I can totally relate to Moses reaction. This young man is so terrified and so unsure of himself that everything The Lord keep telling him, he feels the need to reply. Totally different from Mary when she encountered the angel lol. It’s just funny seeing things from a different angle sometimes, you know? If only he knew where God was really bringing him, if only he knew the plans He had for him, if only he knew that he’s about to embark one of the most remarkable journey’s with the Lord in the Bible, if only he knew the leader he was yet to become, if only he knew that he’s the one The Lord chose to come down with the law, if only he knew that from that moment in the burning bush his life was about to completely change- he wouldn’t have spent so much time being reluctant. Oh, if only you knew young Moses, if only you knew….
Now turn with me in verse 14. A scripture that simply struck me like a lighting. Moses asked the question he shouldn’t have. And here is the response he got:
God said to Moses, “ I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘ I am has sent me to you.’ ” God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation. “Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.’ “The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.’ But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go. “And I will make the Egyptians favourably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. Every woman is to ask her neighbour and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.” (Exodus 3:14-22 NIV)
God reminded Moses of his covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and uses the name I AM to show his unchanging nature. What God promises to the great patriarchs hundreds of years earlier he would fulfill through Moses, he will fulfill through you. Sometimes, you just need to go under the name of the great I AM, its enough. He’s already revealing what he’s on the verge of accomplishing, you just go. Stop asking questions, just go, don’t worry about what people will say, just go! Do what you have to do, do what He told you to do. Stop focusing on what could go wrong, on those who could doubt you, but rather do what He says and GO! If you pay close attention he’s already precisely telling Moses exactly what’s gonna happen. So then, what do you fear? He already has it under control. Just go Moses. Don’t worry about what your family will say, your friends will say, your co-workers will say, don’t look at your problems, just go… God’s got you.
Now that you are convinced on who sent you, are you willing to go with the response He has sent you with? Are you willing to face whatever it is that you have to face, and say without fear or shame “I AM has sent me to you?”. Do you lean on that name, do you trust that indeed He will do what He told you He will do in the burning bush? He’s looking and calling young Moses at the burning bush. People who won’t be afraid to come near and say “Here I am” when He calls their name. People who will humble themselves and take their sandals off when they stand in holy ground. People who stand out, people who will be sensitive to his voice in the secret place, trust & obey the instructions He has to give. He is looking for the Moses of our generation. Someone He can use to lead a whole nation to a land where flows milk and honey, someone who will lead their family where flows milk and honey, someone who will stand out and stand for Him. Is it it? Are you Moses?
